Compact item sorters anyone can wire up

Stop dumping everything into one chest. A hopper sorter sends each item to its own chest automatically, and each slice is only one block wide.

How a sorter works

Items flow along a line of hoppers. Under each one, a filter hopper holds the item you want to catch. A comparator reads it, and when a matching item arrives, it lets that item fall into the chest below.

Each chest slice is one block wide, so you can stack as many as you need.

Setting up the filter

  • Put 41 of the item you want to sort in the first slot of the filter hopper.
  • Put 1 renamed dummy item in each of the other 4 slots so nothing else fits.
  • The comparator now reads 2. One more matching item pushes it to 3 and unlocks the hopper below.
